We all know that great ideas have the potential to transform organizations, drive growth, and create positive change.

Yet, it's unfortunate that many middle-management leaders hesitate to bring forth their ideas, stifling their potential impact.

Why does this happen?

Perhaps it's the fear of being overshadowed by more senior voices or the belief that our contributions won't be valued.

But here's the truth: Every idea, regardless of where it comes from, has the power to ignite transformation.

Today, I’m going to share with you exactly how I beat this feeling within myself and started leaning into the confidence and power of sharing my ideas.

Battling Self-Belief

As a manager, I often hesitated to bring forth my ideas during senior leadership meetings.

Self-doubt would creep in, making me question if my contributions would be valued among esteemed executives.

But through a transformative experience, I overcame these fears and learned invaluable lessons along the way.

How that all changed

During that crucial meeting, I battled the belief that my contribution might be overshadowed by more senior voices in the room.

Here are the key steps I took to prepare and make my voice heard:

  1. Understanding the full scope: I thoroughly grasped the issue at hand and its implications across the organization. This comprehensive understanding allowed me to develop well-rounded solutions.

  2. Seeking diverse feedback: I actively sought input from various levels of the organization, including frontline employees, customers, industry experts, and upper management. This diverse feedback provided a broader perspective on the issue.

  3. Assessing potential risks: I carefully considered the potential risks associated with implementing my proposed solution. Identifying obstacles enabled me to create contingency plans and demonstrate preparedness.

  4. Defining success: Before presenting my idea, I clearly outlined what success would look like for the organization and the team. Aligning the proposed solution with strategic goals showcased its value.

To my surprise, my idea resonated with everyone present.

Its success lay not solely in its originator but in the collective wisdom it represented—the voices of my frontline team members amplified through my presentation.

Power of Idea Sharing

This experience taught me the power of sharing ideas, even when we doubt our place at the table. It reminded me that leadership emerges from the willingness to advocate for our teams and bring forth innovative solutions.

It’s important to remind yourself to:

  • Embrace your ideas

  • Nurture them

  • Fearlessly share them with the world.

Let's foster a culture that amplifies the voices of our teams, recognizes diverse perspectives, and fuels the growth and success of our organizations.
