Contrary to popular belief, self-doubt is not always a negative thing. While it's true that experiencing self-doubt can hinder one's confidence and ability to lead effectively, it can also be a powerful tool for growth and development. As a leader, it's important to recognize that self-doubt is a natural part of the human experience. No one is immune to feelings of insecurity and uncertainty, and it's okay to question your abilities from time to time. In fact, by embracing self-doubt and using it as a catalyst for self-reflection and improvement, leaders can continuously evolve and become better professionals.Instead of seeing self-doubt as an obstacle to overcome, it's essential to view it as an opportunity to learn and grow. By examining your areas of weakness and seeking out opportunities for improvement, you can develop the skills and knowledge necessary to lead with confidence and competence.

Clean energy vs. Dirty energy

I want to stress that it’s important to understand that there are two types of energy sources of motivation for humans. Clean and dirty. Think of it like energy that we use to power our daily lives. You have non-renewable: Gas, oil, fossil fuels. And renewable: Sun, wind, water, nuclear. Typically when you burn non-renewable energy sources it burns off a soot that is dirty and leaves a substance and pollutes the Earth. On the contrary, renewable sources are clean, god for the Earth and reduce their impact on the consumer. Like energy, we must fuel our motivation from clean energy sources. instead of being motivated by proving someone wrong, be motivated by being the best version of yourself.

Easier said than done of course, but this is the framework we need to get ourselves operating from.

Self-doubt as a clean energy source

Because of the way self-doubt makes us feel, it is not innately a clean energy source. We need to leave behind the old ways of just ‘toughening up our way through it’ and change the narrative on how we can use self-doubt as a clean energy source. It’s all about how you approach it. Most people will beat themselves up, allow self-talk to get to them and either be crippled or be motivated into action by the unbearable feelings they have. Here are some actionable steps you can take to use self-doubt as a tool for growth instead of criticizing yourself: Identify areas of weakness: Take a critical look at your skills and knowledge and identify areas where you could improve. Seek out learning opportunities: Whether it's attending a conference or taking a course, seek out opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills. Embrace failure: Don't be afraid to try new things and fail. Use failures as opportunities to learn and grow. Seek feedback: Get feedback from trusted colleagues and mentors to gain an objective perspective and identify areas for improvement. Cultivate a growth mindset: Adopt a growth mindset and embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and development.

Self-doubt is not final

Remember, self-doubt is not inherently bad. It's a natural part of the human experience, and by embracing it and using it as a tool for growth, leaders can become more confident and effective. So the next time you experience self-doubt, don't try to push it away. Embrace it, use it as a catalyst for improvement, and watch as you develop into a stronger, more capable leader.Until next time, Pierre Inspires
