Hey fam,Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about purpose and what drives some of us to go after things like our life depends on it and why some of us can’t seem to feel the same way about what we’re doing.Don’t worry, I’ve been there. Like I said, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this and I’ve come to one major conclusion on why there are people who will do things that others are not willing to do.And by that I mean the sacrifices that come with achieving success. While I am a huge supporter of doing the things we love and having a good balance in life, the truth is that no matter what you do you will have to sacrifice portions of what you want to do instead.The only way to get there is by being so crystal clear on what our WHY is.Your why comes after your purpose, it comes after your wants, your why is your Northstar. Your guiding light.Your why is a statement of purpose that describes why you do the work you do and why you live a lifestyle the way you do.Maybe you’re thinking, “Pierre! I don’t even know what my why is. How can I go about applying it to my life if I don’t even know it?” What gives you that fire in your belly? What makes you so excited? What is it that you do makes you want to learn all the necessary skills to get better at doing that thing?For example, while building his company, Quest Nutrition, Tom Bilyeu defined his why as “the desire to end metabolic disease.” With that ambitious why in mind, everything that Tom did to build his company directly impacted that why. When he said yes and no to things, he first asked himself, “will this align the company closer with the mission to end metabolic disease?”You see having a clear understanding of his why equipped him to make the sacrifices, decisions, and ultimately become a successful company that clung tightly to their values.
