The first chapter of my book

What the first chapter of my book is about!

Happy Tuesday my friend!🙌You know, I have really been enjoying these Tuesday newsletters. I really look forward to the days of the week when I can connect with you all on a more personal level. I’m able to go much deeper into concepts and receiving personalized feedback from some of you has been humbling! I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation to all of you. I want to show my appreciation by giving you all access to read the FIRST chapter of my book coming out this June. Crazy, right?🤯As I share this first snippet with you, I want you to think about putting yourself in the shoes of what is being spoken about. After all, this is for YOU. This book is about making the leader within you World-Class, it’s about demanding more from yourself as an individual. I implore you to take it to heart. I hope you enjoy this! Let me know your thoughts, I’d love to hear your feedback on how I can improve. Here it is 👇”At twenty-one years old, I was one of the youngest senior pastors in North America. The recognition was humbling, but deep down inside, I was terrified. Right out of college, I was responsible for leading a large church and a group of leaders who were older, wiser, and more experienced than me! I quickly realized that, as a leader, I was not going to have all the answers. Actually, the more I was honest with myself and my team, the more we were able to accomplish. That is why I start with the concept of honesty. You cannot be a successful leader without it. First, be honest with your self, then be honest with everyone around you. This will not always be easy, but in the end, you will go farther and have a greater impact.

When you lead a team, transparency will go a long way from the beginning. Try not to hide things from your team. In order for a company to run smoothly, everyone must be in the know. It is not your role to have all the answers. Having the responsibility of leading a team can be an overwhelming thought at times. Just come to terms that you don’t know what you don’t know.

Be honest with your employees about rough patches the company is going through at the time, places that need work, and where you need their help. You never know where a solution may come from, so by informing all of your employees about the situation, you open the door for seeing blind spots and gaps that you can’t cover on your own. When attending leadership meetings, remember to quickly cascade information to all members of your team appropriately. Employees love being kept in the loop.

Also, be honest about the performance of your employees. Some managers struggle with being too harsh, while others struggle with being too soft. If you often allow problems to be swept under the rug and avoid confronting an employee who makes a mistake, you need to change your approach. Letting an employee know their strengths and weaknesses isn’t you being mean. Rather, it is you being honest for the good of the company and the employee’s advancement. Employees should receive feedback regarding their performance regularly. Share recognition and appreciation in real-time. If corrective actions need to take place, don’t wait. Address them immediately in the appropriate setting.

Don’t be afraid, to be honest about what’s going wrong in the company. If you’re seeing flaws or a large bump in the road coming up, let your employees know. It’s better to get all of this out in the open so that they can prepare for the road that lies ahead. Keeping the bad and sharing the goodwill only result in unhappy surprises later on for your employees. Be upfront and honest while still leaving room for optimism and positivity.”💥 There it is! Phew!
