Avoiding Inadequacy as a leader

I never had it all figured out..

Another Tuesday, Another Newsletter!🙌I often get caught up and struggle with starting everything off with “as a leader” or “If you’re a leader, this is for you!.” I want you to know that regardless of your status in your career or how you feel about yourself amongst your peers, everything that I write is for people.I don’t care if you are at the back-end of your career, at the bottom of the organization chart, or feeling insecure to lead, everything I write is for YOU.It’s become my mission to create a community that is accessible by everyone regardless of their status, no boundaries. We are all called to be leaders, we are all called to be the best versions of ourselves. It’s time to drop the barrier to entry on leadership. It’s time to invite others to be apart of this journey. When we we come together we are stronger as a force. But here’s the reality. With all that being said, there are still times where we feel unequipped and inadequate to lead our teams and ourselves.I am no stranger to this. I can recall a specific moment at the beginning of my career when everyone was looking to me as their leader and I had no clue what to do. 🚨STORY TIME🚨When I was 21 years old, I was called to become lead pastor at a church in Oklahoma. I must have been one of the youngest lead pastors in America at the time.. and I felt it. Everyone was coming to me for answers, for guidance, and direction and I didn’t have all of them. Of course I still showed up, I still led my community, but I couldn’t help but feeling like I was improperly equipped to take on this task. Day 1 is so hard and no-one gives you a rule book on how to lead. To be honest, I was still learning how to lead myself and dealt with extreme imposter syndrome at that time. 🤔 So, what made the difference?I leaned into the reality of imperfection and decided that no matter what I would make mistakes and that no matter what I will always be an imperfect leader and most importantly an imperfect human. When I gave myself that understanding, everything changed👇And now, here I am 36 years old 15 years later and I am so grateful for the lessons I learned during those times. I think back to that 21 year old version of myself and at the time I know what would have helped me was advice straight from someone who was either going through what I was going through at that time or someone that had gone through it that I could learn from. And while I didn’t have that, I have made it my mission to be that for the next generation of leaders. Which is why I wrote “21 ways to become an effective leader.” to inspire this and the next generation of leaders that could use these same valuable lessons. It doesn’t matter where you are at in your journey, I am confident that these lessons will enable you to level up and build on top of the progress you have already made. It’s going to help you keep goingđź’ŞBoth hard AND soft skills are necessary and we’re going to cover it all!CALL TO ACTION👉 My hope is that within my story you will find hope and understand that you are not alone and it is okay to feel adequate. But it is NOT okay to feel inadequate and not do anything about it.And that is where I want to call you into momentum and action.updates! đźŽ‰ My book “21 Ways to Effective Leadership” is now available for pre-order!
