A little over 5 months ago I released my very first book. I called it ‘21 Ways to Effective Leadership.’ I decided that I wanted to write a book because there were so many things that I had learned about being a leader in such a short period of time. Going from a lead pastor at 21 years old to a c-suite executive at one of the largest healthcare providers to now being the President of a hospital in just 15 years taught me a lot. I feel extremely fortunate to have had all these experiences by the age of 36 so that I can go back and share what I’ve learned with other, world-class leaders like yourself. So, in comes ‘21 Ways,’ I wrote this book as a guide for you at any stage of your leadership career to equip you with the tools needed to take your leadership to the next level. I’m a huge believer in the idea that we don’t have to go through everything on our own to learn, we can learn from the successes AND the failures of others. Today I am going to give you 3 of the most important lessons from my book that I believe if honed in on, are game-changers for any leader. Here they are: Deliberate Honesty Helps Gain and Build Trust within Your OrganizationHonesty is the foundation for all relationships. Without honesty, or at least perceived honesty, trust will be difficult to develop. From a leadership standpoint, trust from employees is valuable to the success of an organization and should be viewed as a priority.Use Self-Awareness as A Guiding Light

Good leaders and managers start with having a good sense of self. Before you can have awareness about how anyone else on your team or in the world operates, you need to start with yourself.A strong leader knows their weaknesses and strengths and uses each accordingly to motivate themself to become a better person. It all starts from the inside.Think of The Bigger Picture“Leadership is helping believe in a better tomorrow or a better outcome than you have today.” (Marissa Mayer, Former CEO of Yahoo!)There have been many times over the years when I had to remind myself to not focus on minor things if I am looking to make a major impact on the organization.Leaders can only think big if they plan their work. Make sure the work you’re doing has a positive effect that is bigger than yourself. Here are a few ways to stay focused on the bigger picture- Allot for thinking time and project/task planning- Breakdown the bigger picture into smaller, more manageable projects/contributions- Manage projects by working backward from the end result

It all comes down to trustDeveloping trust within your organization is key to a successful work environment and can be done by being honest and self-aware. Leadership involves looking at the bigger picture and putting the needs of others before yourself. If you would like to learn more about how to improve your leadership skills, consider grabbing my latest Book, ‘21 Ways to Effective Leadership.’Until next time, Pierre Inspires
