READ TIME: 2 minute 15 seconds

It’s been over a year since I wrote and released my first book.

At the time I had no idea how impactful committing myself to it would have been for my relationships, my leadership, and my own self-belief.

My decision to write this book was rooted in a profound realization.

As a young lead pastor at 21, I began an extraordinary trajectory that saw me rise to the ranks of a c-suite executive at a prominent healthcare provider.

Eventually, at the age of 36, I stood as the President of a hospital. This rapid ascent of just 15 years was a remarkable learning curve, gifting me with a plethora of leadership insights.

I consider myself immensely fortunate to have gathered such a wealth of experiences at a relatively young age.

It's this wisdom that I am eager to share with leaders like you—individuals who aspire to reach the zenith of their leadership potential.

The birth of '21 Ways' was not only an endeavor to share my experiences but a quest to provide you with a guide, regardless of where you stand in your leadership journey.

So reflecting back on this time, I wanted to share with you 3 of my favorite lessons from my book.

I hope they help in some way. I know they helped me.

1. Authentic Honesty: The Pillar of Trust

Honesty is the bedrock of relationships, especially in a professional setting. Without it, trust is hard to cultivate, a vital component for organizational success.

Leaders should prioritize building trust through transparent and honest communication within their teams and the organization at large.

How to embody: Be transparent in your communication, admit mistakes, and foster an environment where honesty is celebrated and valued.

2. Self-Awareness: Illuminating the Path to Growth

Exceptional leadership begins with profound self-awareness. Understanding one's strengths and weaknesses enables a leader to motivate themselves for self-improvement. This self-awareness forms the foundation upon which effective leadership is built.

How to embody: Engage in regular self-reflection, seek feedback from peers, and actively work on improving areas where you identify weaknesses.

3.Painting the Vision: Leadership Beyond Tomorrow

“Leadership is helping believe in a better tomorrow or a better outcome than you have today,” rightly stated by Marissa Mayer, former CEO of Yahoo.

A leader must transcend minor details and focus on the larger vision. By doing so, they ensure that their efforts have a positive, impactful effect that extends beyond themselves.

How to embody: Continuously communicate and reinforce the organization's vision, ensuring every action and decision aligns with this broader purpose.

Trust lies at the heart of a thriving work environment.

Cultivating trust through honesty and self-awareness, and keeping the bigger picture in mind are pivotal for effective leadership.

Wishing you continued success on your leadership journey.

Until next time,
