Feeling overlooked in the workplace?
The pandemic has alot of employees feeling overlooked by the superiors. With alot of people spending less time in the office and more time at homes, the opportunities to appreciate their work has become considerably less possible. Less interactions, more work. I understand why a lot of people are feeling burnt out. The truth is that it feels GOOD to be recognized for the work that we do. Some of us may feel this way, but some of us also may be witnesses to this as well. When we recognize this or are confided in by our colleagues, we have a responsibility to act as an ally and help make their situation better. Here is how we can be an ally & show up for our colleagues 1️⃣ Have empathy. Take time to connect with your colleague and understand how they are feeling. It’s not a great feeling to be overlooked and even worse, misunderstood.
2️⃣ Mention to their superior how good of a job they are doing. You’ll be surprised how are a word of recognition or kudos will go. It may even open the managers eyes in a non-crticizing fashion.
3️⃣ Reach out and let them know how great of a job they are doing and to stay persistent. While it may be simple, feeling seen can mean so much to someone.
Food For ThoughtWe all play a role in cultivating a workplace environment that gives back.
Equipping ourselves with the tools that best serve our environment willl ALWAYS be a win for everyone. 👉 What does standing up and being an ally mean to you?
