Have you ever introduced yourself to someone and the first thing they mentioned to you was their big, fancy title?Maybe you thought to yourself, “Wow, I’m impressed.” But maybe you thought to yourself, “Who does this person think they are?” It’s not their fault. Society has drawn us out to believe that without our titles of what we we do in work, we aren’t as valuable. That without a putting a ‘label’ on ourselves we are leaving ourselves open to being labeled by anyone else. So we gotta protect ourselves right? Wrong. Today I am going to share with you why we need to stop putting stock in our titles and put stock in our legacy. Layoff's aren't slowing down anytime soon. A lot of people are starting to realize that when the numbers aren't optimal, tough decsions have to be made that can lead to them being cut from the 'family' they thought they were apart of. After 16 years of working in leadership roles, I have a hard truth to share with you today. To a lot of companies, you are a number on a spreadsheet.And for anyone that has been in this position, I feel for you and I can only imagine how this must feel for you. But there's hope, when you realize this. It gives you power.

It all starts with asking yourself this important question

“Who am I without my title?”During times like this we have to ask ourselves this because without a clear answer, we can fall to anything. This is a powerful truth that when you really understand it, it gives you power!Trust comes from vulnerabilityVulnerability is not a weakness. It's a strength.

It allows people to trust you more and relate to you more effectively because they know that you are human and that they can count on you in the future when things get tough. When we become vulnerable with one another, we build trust, which is the cornerstone of all great relationships: romantic, familial and platonic alike.So what does that mean for you? Build something that doesn't rely on your title. Share your story, help people accomplish success, share your advice on how to get to where you got. Trust me, your story & journey are valuable to a group of people out there. Lean into your unique value.

Action Item👉 Take time to write down the things that matter to you beyond your job. Is it your family? Serving people? Define your values.👉 Reflect on the transferrable skills that you have that can be used to build your own thing. 👉 If you're fortunate enough to be gainfully employed, start building your personal brand now. Does it have to be perfect? nope. You just have to show up. Get out there, network, make connections.Change someones life. Own your truth. Show up everyday. Never put all your eggs into one basket.
