In this day and age, strong emotional intelligence is essential. Why? Because it helps you become a better communicator, a more strategic thinker, and enables you to garner the respect of others. And a world where you can gain the respect of others and make them feel good about themselves? That sounds like an awesome place to increase productivity.EQ is like a muscle that needs to be trained. But it is not just a training session here and there, it takes consistent work and acknowledging what you are feeling. In Today’s Two Minute Tuesday, I’m going to break down 5 ways that we can use EQ at work to strengthen our relationships, work through our own emotions, and work more effectively. Self-awareness actually allows individuals to have more empathy toward others.Empathy allows you to understand your employees, which makes them feel more valued and motivates them to perform better. It also makes you more relatable to your boss and other leaders higher up in the company hierarchy.
1.Actively Listen
Use listening as a tool to gain insight and perspective while avoiding applying your own bias to the situation. 2.EmpathizeOnce you become equipped with perspective, you can then empathize with that person. Work to understand why a situation or altercation came to be in the first place. 3. Stay Positive. Energy is infectious, both positive and negative. Use the power of positive energy to amplify your team. Be sure to also manage both positive and negative emotions as they come. 4. Ask for Feedback. Seriously evaluate any feedback that you receive. Not all feedback has to be accepted, but all feedback should be given the appropriate amount of attention to be assessed and applied if necessary. 5. Practice Social SkillsExperience will always be the best teacher. By choosing to engage socially, while applying the points above, EQ can be compounded exponentially. Yin & YangBeing emotionally intelligent is all about balance, and it's incredibly difficult to advocate for any one approach over the others. Everyone is unique, after all. What works for some people won't necessarily work for others.
We can only hope that, by giving you a few different strategies to choose from, some of them are likely to resonate with you and help you improve your emotional intelligence.Until next time, Pierre Inspires
