Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself clearly, understand your motivations, and manage your emotions. It's a skill that can be developed over time, but it's essential for success in all aspects of life. In Today’s Two Minute Tuesday, we'll explore what self-awareness means and how it can help you become more confident at work and in life. Before you have self-awareness about how anyone else on your team or in your world operates, you must need to start with yourself. The unique qualities that you bring to your team is what makes you a great leader. Let us explore together some of the reasons self-awareness builds stronger teams, deeper connections & a lasting impact. Self-awareness actually allows individuals to have more empathy toward others.Empathy allows you to understand your employees, which makes them feel more valued and motivates them to perform better. It also makes you more relatable to your boss and other leaders higher up in the company hierarchy.
Self-awareness isn't just good for you as an individual, it can also benefit your team and workplace.
A lack of self-awareness can hinder your efforts to improve as a leader or manager because it prevents you from understanding how others perceive you. Ask yourself; Are they intimidated by your presence? Do they think that all conversations are always about work? Is there something about your body language that makes people uncomfortable when talking with you?People aren't born self-aware; it's something we develop over time.Self-awareness is a skill that can be learned, developed, and practiced. It's also a skill that can be developed through the act of reflecting on our thoughts, feelings and actions. Here are some ways we can develop better social awareness
Listen to your team
Read body language
Be inquisitive, but not pushy about the mindset and lives of your team.
Define your shared values and your differences amongst your team.
Awareness + empathy= A trusted leaderWhen these traits are prioritized, within an organization and within yourself and emphasis is placed on self-development, teams continue to grow and become more equipped to flourish for a myriad business and life situations!Be the one to start this and watch the ripple effect happen.
