In today’s issue, I’m going to share 3 pieces of advice to keep your teams growing and avoid a stale and stagnant workplace.Without a work culture of pushing toward success and the next level, a team cannot survive. And how do you do it? By establishing common goals & a shared vision. If you can correctly motivate your employees, you will strengthen the entire business. And this doesn’t just apply to work, this is REAL stuff you can use in life too. When you share a common vision for goals as a team, the friction to get there becomes *almost* non-existent. I covered this topic in my book ‘21 Ways to Effective Leadership’ where I outlined definite strategies to lead a team to success through a shared vision. The foundation to successful leadership

When you’re actively focused on establishing goals, you have to build trust. Start with this framework.

  • Pay specific attention to the strengths and weaknesses of your team.

  • Verbal recognition is EVERYTHING.

  • Motivation doesn’t come from thin air. Creative inspiration is a necessity.

Motivation is only good and helpful to your employees if it’s matched with inspiration. Now that we are clear on that, here are 3 pieces of advice on the importance of having common goals as a team. Common goals encourage teamwork & inspiration.

When employees feel motivated by a common interest, they are more likely to collaborate and offer creative solutions. Always welcome and encourage contributions of this nature. They are the lifeblood to your organization.

When you put time and effort into building your team, they will see that you care which in turn will make them happy and more willing to contribute to the shared vision. Action Item: Host a brainstorming session with your immediate team to discuss ideas that they have. Encourage them to share and when they do, verbally appreciate them for sharing. Shared goals foster employee development.

It’s no suprise that when employees feel more connected to their colleagues and the work that is being created, they will also be more engaged in the work that is being produced. At all costs, avoid making anyone on your team feel irrelevant or that what they are doing does not matter. Action Item: Reach out directly to a team member who hasn’t spoken up in awhile and ask them how they feel about the direction of a project.

Common goals help employees feel valued in the workplace. When you have a valued employee, you will also have a motivated employee. When they realize that the work they are doing is directly contributing to the organizational work that is taking place, they will feel more valued, which in turn boosts their self-esteem and self-worth. On the contrary, employees who do not feel valued are 2x more likely to quit versus their colleagues. Action Item: When establishing tasks for that next team project, make specific team members responsible for the outcomes of certain tasks so they have an opportunity to own that outcome. Set a common goal for the and do the work to include everyone. Until next time, continue being World-Class.Pierre Inspires
